Common BV symptoms include a thin vaginal discharge that is gray or white in color, an unpleasant vaginal odor (often with a “fishy” smell), and a itching or burning sensation. An elevated pH also develops and allows the bad bacteria to continue to thrive, so it’s important to restore a healthy balance in order to help treat the infection.

While bacterial vaginosis is the most common type of vaginal infection, it isn’t the only type of infection that can result from imbalance in vaginal pH. Yeast infections and urinary tract infections (UTIs) can also develop when vaginal pH levels are disrupted.
